ZoieLogic Dance Theatre will be working to connect communities across the city, challenging perceptions of where we live and celebrating who we are and what is important to us. In the Weston Shore area of the city, Zoie and her team will work with local people and community groups to gather stories and create and show dance theatre performances. Read more.
City Eye are looking for 12 stories from Southampton’s BAME and migrant community. The story must be relevant to Southampton. We are particularly interested in elders who can talk widely about their experiences, including how and when they came to Southampton and how they came to think of the city as their home. Read More.
Solent Showcase Gallery is working with 2 local artists, Nazneen Ahmed and Abeer Kayani to deliver community workshops and activity packs based on the principles of Islamic geometry, home and belonging. The activities are intended for wide audiences while the workshops will focus on women’s groups and schools in the city to bring a rich collaboration of diverse communities, skills, talent and ambition together. Drawing on aspects of the Mayflower story, Belonging, recreates a contemporary artistic version which is a play between the real and imagined, the local and universal, the specific and abstract. You can participate in the project in various ways. Through music, storytelling, and craftwork. These will be captured in the form of song, music, words, poems, craft, colour, and sound into a multi-sensory art installation that represents a home or a site of belonging. Read more.
Audacious have opened a Film Poetry Competition to celebrate Southampton, a city and a community, built on journeys and migration. They have also created a digital resource package to be made available to schools to support KS2 teachers delivering poetry sessions, teaching students how to write poetry about Mayflower 400.
